Max Chery Obituary

Max Chery, was born on April 4th, 1951, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to the late Macion Jack Chery and Charlesia Charles.   Max was the first born of their six children and the oldest son of the 13 siblings on his father’s side of the family.  His father Macion Jack Chery moved to the US in 1965, and thereafter quickly petitioned for all of his children to move to the US for a better life in which he was the first to move in 1970 at the age of 19 years old.

Upon his arrival, he immediately began working as a forklift truck operator for Abex Corporation in Mahwah, NJ and continued for the next 15 years.   During the course of the next 20 years he held jobs as a maintenance worker at a nursing home called Hebrew Home and worked at the Newark International Airport as a baggage handler.  Max later became a parking attendant with Glenwood Management Corporation in 2007 where he remained employed until his passing.  In addition, he was very helpful with managing one rental property for his dad and stepmom which he also continued to do before his untimely departure.

In 1974, Max married Annia Jean Charles, and from this union Max and Annia had three beautiful children, Mackenzie, Mike and Sabine.   They later divorced in 1980.   In 1989, Max met Denise Massey and from this relationship a beautiful son, Michael was born in 1992.  In 2009, Max married the love of his life Flores Printemps and adopted her daughter Withzaly at the age of 2 and has been raising her as if she were his own.

Max was a resident of Haledon, NJ since 2012.  Prior to moving to New Jersey he lived in Manhattan for many years before relocating to Paterson in 2010.  He was a dedicated member of the Haitian Bethel Church of Nazarene also in Paterson. He was very family oriented, a devoted father, husband and friend.  He enjoyed listening to all kinds of music and took pride in working and providing for his family.  He had a great sense of humor, loved to crack jokes and tell funny stories with his family, friends and co-workers.  Max had a big heart and was always willing to help others however he could, even if it meant sacrificing something for him.

Max departed this life peacefully on Saturday, February 10th, 2018 at the New York Presbyterian Columbia Hospital in Manhattan, NY surrounded and supported by his loving family ; after suffering complications related to his long fight with prostate cancer.  Max was preceded in death by his father Macion Jack Chery , beloved mother Charlesia Charles and his sisters Marie Michelle Chery and Jacqueline Chery respectively.
