St. Jacques Sejour

June 4, 1937 ~ November 19, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Biography of St. Jacques Sejour

St. Jacques Sejour was born on June 4th, 1937 in the second section of Bonbadopolis, Haiti to Chakin Sejour and Einofane Sence—he was the 4th of nine children.  As a young man he moved to Port-au-Prince where he worked for several years at a fabric company by the name of Filature Brandt.  In 1966 he married his beloved wife, Resilia Josias; in 1970, Sejour moved to the United States, residing first in Brooklyn, New York (for a few years) before moving to New Jersey where he spent his later years. After moving to the United States, he worked several jobs including working as a janitor at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York where he retired after 31 years.

Sejour was a jack-of-all-trades earning degrees and certificates in photography, barbering, plumbing, and heating & air conditioning. Although he never ran for any political office, he was a born politician. He never went a day without reading the newspaper, watching the news on TV and listening to it on his radio in order to stay informed as to what was going on in both the United States and Haiti.

Sejour had two biological daughters, Ruth and Jacqueline Sejour but also adopted and raised his wife’s niece (Dahanah Josias Sejour) and nephews (Nickendson and Dalvin Josias Sejour) as his own.

After battling with illness for the past three years, the Lord called him home–laying him to rest in peace on November 19th, 2017 at the age 80 years old. He is survived by his wife (Resilia Sejour) of 51 years, his 5 children, 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 6 living siblings, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He will be remembered for his generosity, his love for his family and friends, and his passion for politics and photography. He will be missed dearly by his loved ones including his camera!
