Thelusmene Medulme Obituary

Thelusmene Medulme was born on June 29, 1944 in Saint Marc, Haiti to the late Thelusmene Alexander and Medius Medulme. Thelusmene studied Nursing at La Tortue in Haiti and completed her studies at the age of 22. Shortly after completing her studies she left Haiti and moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she worked as a nurse in Lower     Manhattan. While in New York, she met and married Clement Joachim, Sr., and gave birth to their only son Clement Joachim, Jr. on September 14, 1979.

Thelusmene was one of the founding members of the Haitian Community at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary and St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Elizabeth, NJ.  She planned multiple trips and pilgrimages to various locations. She was well traveled,         continuously going on pilgrimage within the states and around the world. As a result of her extensive travels, she was able to pray with Archbishops in Rome, at sacred places such as the Holy Land in Jerusalem, and in front of Our Lady of Fatima. She was known to make her annual Pilgrimage to Canada every August visiting Notre-Dame Basilica and The Basilica Cathedral of St. John the Baptist the list goes on and on.

Thelusmene’s dream was to show love and support to her fellow Haitians by bringing as many of her family members to New Jersey for better opportunities. In 1984 She adopted Jocelyn Joachim/Nazair and personally went to Haiti to bring her to America to join her family. To help finance her dreams she opened Thaly’s restaurant in Elizabeth, NJ. She created jobs by employing many Haitians who were both family and friends at her restaurant. Every summer you would find many members of her family and friends hanging out at Thaly’s. Being the devout Catholic she put all of her kids in bible study at St. Michael’s church.

On April 2, 2018, Thelusmene was called home to be with the Lord. Sharing the   memories of her beautiful life are, Son: Clement Joachim Jr.; Daughter: Marie J.
