Altagrace Monelus was born on April 22, 1971 in Desdunes, Haiti and was daughter to
the late Carmen Jean Baptist and Homme Cius Monelus. Altagrace came to the United States
when she was 17 years old in the year 1988 in which she lived in Irvington, NJ. She attended
Irvington High School in 1990. She was married to Innocent Therlonge in October 6, 1995 and
gave birth to five beautiful, healthy children, Tevin, Simpson, Ivinson, Ashton and Tamika. Altagrace was a very hardworking woman that would do anything for the sake of her
family, no matter the circumstances. She loved Haitian Kompa music and she also loved
Beyonce. Her favorite songs from her were “Halo”, “Crazy in Love”, “Irreplaceable” and
“Single Ladies”. Her favorite foods were fish, chicken and veggies but she disliked okra, though
she loved to cook okra for others. She loved to get dressed for any occasion. Her favorite colors
were gold because she loved jewelry, pink for the pink roses or the Hibiscus flower, that
represented Haiti’s independence and purple because she loved everything that was purple.
At one point in her life, she studied to be a nurse because she just loved to care for those
in need of help. She took her job seriously as a C.N.A. and she cared for all the patients. Altagrace was selfless and would rather care about the well-being of others than her own. She
would often be seen sharing food with others that wouldn’t have anything to eat or just being
helpful in any way possible. She liked everyone and would assure them of her gentle presence
with her warm and beautiful smile.
More than anything she loved family. When she finds out about new members of the
family or just family that she hasn’t seen yet she takes her time out to talk to them, speak wisdom
and to get to know them. She liked the finer things in life but always knew that family was more
important than anything and sacrificed a lot for her family. If you knew her personally, she had a
big sweet heart and a gentle personality. She loved to sit down to talk and joke with her children
but there was a quote she always told her kids and it was something she wanted them to live by,
“Be Something For Yourself”.
On the night of December 30, 2023, Altagrace’s soul was called to be alongside the Lord.
Cherishing the memories of her beautiful life are:
Her Children: Tevin, Simpson, Ivinson, Ashton and Tamika
Her Sisters: Sonia, Sadilla, Marie Jean
Her Brothers: Rezan, Wilbert, Luckson
Her Husband: Innocent
And the many family members and friends she has encountered throughout her wonderous life.
