Claude Montour

Claude Montour, age 79, unexpectedly passed away on Friday night, July 3rd, 2026. He was born on October 8th, 1946, in Arcahaie, Haiti, to the late Fernand Montour and the late Emilie Volcy. His father, Fernand, passed away before Claude was born, and from the beginning of his life, Claude learned the meaning of strength, resilience, and perseverance. A devoted family man, Claude lived a life defined by hard work, humility, and love for those around him.
From a very young age, Claude began working to support himself and his siblings. He started gardening, building his future through determination and sacrifice. Over time, he purchased his first tap-tap, which he proudly named “L’amour du Travail” — “the love of work.” From that first vehicle, he grew his business, eventually driving buses and then trucks. Through his steady effort and dedication, he worked with several major businesses in Haiti and became known as one of the country’s respected entrepreneurs. His success and reputation were admired by all who knew him, not because of formal schooling but because of his devotion to becoming the best version of himself and giving his children the better life he did not have growing up.
Claude always strived for success while choosing to live a simple and meaningful life. He believed in the dignity of honest work and showed, through his example, that dedication and perseverance could create opportunities not only for himself but also for the people he loved. He surrounded himself with people who could pour wisdom, encouragement, and strength into him, even as he shaped his life into what he wanted it to be. One of his favorite sayings was, “Mwen minm Claude Montour, mwen pa vagabond non,” a phrase that reflected his pride, self-respect, and determination. He leaves behind his wife Elizabeth Ulysse Montour, nine children, and fifteen grandchildren, who will continue to carry his memory, his values, and his legacy forward.

Though life presented him with challenges from the very beginning, Claude never allowed hardship to define him. To his children and grandchildren, Claude leaves more than memories; he leaves values to live by. He leaves the lesson of perseverance, the importance of family, the pride of hard work, and the courage to shape your own path. His words, his sacrifices, and his example will continue to guide those who loved him.
Although Claude is no longer physically with us, his spirit remains present in every life he helped shape, every opportunity he created, and every heart that carries his name with love and pride. May his memory be a blessing, and may his legacy continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, family, and all who were blessed to know him.
