David Lecet Gilles was born on October 1, 1979, in Newark, New Jersey. He was the son of Simone Castor and Rene Gilles and was lovingly raised by Richard Castor. To his mother, David was always “Dadou", and from Richard he learned strength, honor, and integrity. He shared a deep bond with his grandparents, Gloria Dubos Lapaix and Lecet Lapaix.
David was a devoted husband to Melisa Gilles, with whom he shared seven years of love and two years of marriage. To her, he was her Sugar Bear and Chéri, her best friend and true partner. Together, they cherished their beloved dog, Kodak.
He was a proud and loving father to David Jr. Gilles (Juju), whose joy, motivation, and legacy he carried in his heart.
David shared a lifelong bond with his siblings: his older brother, Alain Gilles (Slude); his sister-in-law, Joy Gilles; his sister, Dr. Richardine Castor; and his younger brother, Richardy (Chardy). He was a proud Godfather and Uncle to Zakiya Gilles, Zoee Gilles, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He also cherished the Gilles family of South Jersey and the Louissaint boys.
A hardworking truck driver, real estate investor, and entrepreneur, David valued family above all else. Effortlessly cool, loyal, and intentional, he loved deeply, lived authentically, and left behind memories that will always begin with, “Remember when David…”
Rest easy, David.
Zoe life or no life—forever.
