Obituary

Born on January 14, 1936, Dormise Dorcély is the offspring of Mrs. Clairmise Rémy and Alcidor Dorcély. She was the second daughter and the third child of the family, among whom her siblings were successively: Lamercie Dorcély (deceased), Louidort Dorcély (deceased), and Claire Dorcély, residing in the Artibonite, more precisely in Dessalines.

From a young age, as was the custom of the time with a few rare exceptions, she engaged in the trade of agricultural products, of course with the assistance of her mother. She was one of the most elegant young ladies of her time. At the age of 20, she met the young Mécène Morisset, who eagerly married her. They received their nuptial blessings at the Immaculate Catholic Church in Villard, a locality located near Saint Marc. Being married at a very young age, Dormise adopted the eldest daughter of her older sister, her niece Virginie Pierre, who left her mother's house to live with the new couple, considering her as their own daughter throughout their lives. From the union of Mr. and Mrs. Mécène Morisset, 10 boys were born, of whom 6 are still alive: Dorcély Morisset, Michel Morisset, Simon Morisset, Anouald Morisset, Renel Morisset, and Watson Morisset.

Dormise and Mécène, by the grace of God, overcame enormous difficulties together and remained united in the bonds of marriage until the day when death took Mécène Morisset away, 11 years ago. As for his death, that cruel enemy, seized her a month ago today.

Dormise was a disciplined mother, a hard worker, a shrewd and intelligent merchant. In short, an exceptional and caring mother who sacrificed every day for the well-being of her children. Dormise was loved by all her children. She was cheerful, playful, admired by the whole family, especially by her nieces and nephews, for her ability to make everyone laugh, even in the most difficult and turbulent moments of life.

Mrs. Dormise Morisset lived for a few years here in the United States, specifically in the city of East Orange. Seeing her old age approaching, she decided to settle permanently in Haiti. Sometime later, she fell ill and remained bent under the weight of this illness for several years, and finally, she breathed her last on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at the age of 87, in the city of Saint Marc, Haiti.

Dormise is leaving, and our soul is sad, but we rejoice in the hope that one day, death will be no more. He who is the resurrection and the life, Jesus Christ the victor, will destroy it forever.

May her soul rest in peace!
