Our beloved Ermitid Braveus was born on February 23, 1923, in Deschapelles, Haiti to the parentage of late Oreus and Marianne Braveus. Although growing up in the countryside with very little schooling Ermitid was an intelligent woman of her own right. She worked as a merchant for many years. As a young woman she met and married late husband Cereste Ulysse to which she had one son, Joseph Ulysse.
In 1993, at the age of 70, Ermitid immigrated to the United States to assist with the care of her only granddaughter Shavan Ulysse. Ermitid lived in Irvington, New Jersey for the remainder of her life. Upon starting over in the US, Ermitid made friends and found community within her church home at Newark Haitian Church of God. She was a devout woman of God attending multiple prayer services during the week, joining prayer groups as they made house calls, even attending both morning and evening Sunday services. She was so involved with her church community they nicknamed her “Pakab pa la”. In everything she did God was always put first, even when making plans, she always responded first by saying “si Bondye vle” (“if God is willing”). Her long, beautiful life filled with love and family was a true testament to her faith in God.
On July 2, 2025, Ermitid was called home to be with the Lord. She is survived by a host of family members including: her son Joseph Ulysse and his wife Marie Ulysse, her grandchildren: Fritznel, Gregory (wife Margo Gelin), Jeffrey, and Shavan Ulysse. Also, grandsons Field (wife Meia Excellent) and Alend Excellent. Her great grandchildren Elliana Ulysse, Javon Excellent, Jaelen Excellent, and Jahzara Excellent.
