Exantus Bruno Mytil was born to his late mother, Catherine Fenelon Exantus, and father, Charles Mytil Etienne on November 5, 1953, in Desdunes, Haiti. He is survived by his uncle, Reverend Pastor Joseph Etienne.
As a young boy, he attended school in Desdunes, Haiti where he was an intelligent student and had a thirst for education. Exantus always sought to be the best as he graduated valedictorian in his elementary classes. Soon after, he attended high school in Port au Prince, Haiti where he once again graduated as valedictorian.
His passion for education was like no other. Exantus was called to teach at Ecole Salem, where he prepared many students for high school. They loved his drive for education and enjoyed having him as an instructor. He was also a Sunday School instructor at Eglise Baptiste Bethanie. In addition, he participated in ministries such as Guerre de Bataillon, Brigade Chretienne, and others. While in Port au Prince, he attended a specialty school for men’s tailoring. He had a multitude of interests, from education to tailoring.
In 1974, Exantus met a beautiful woman, Yolande Raymond and married her in 1978. Soon after, they welcomed their firstborn, Edenson. Though married for a short period of time, in 1980, Exantus left his family behind and immigrated to the United States in search of a better life, not for himself but for his family. In all circumstances, separation is temporary, not permanent. Yolande rejoined her husband in the U.S. four years later, leaving their firstborn behind. They welcomed three children between 1985 and 1991, Wilkens, Edlande, and El-Karine. In 1994, Edenson was able to reunite with his family.
In the U.S., Exantus became a member of Eglise Baptiste de la Nouvelle Jerusalem, under the leadership of his uncle Reverend Dr. Joseph Etienne. With a continued hunger for biblical education, he enrolled in Ecole Evangelique de la Bible, now known as Institut Biblique Evangelique. He graduated with a certificate and a diploma in Biblical Studies. Furthermore, he was a member of the church choir (La Grande Chorale), became ordained as a Deacon in 2003, served as an advisor in the church committee for several years, and most recently, served as the leader of the Deacon board. Besides the ministries served in the church, Exantus was a professional private chauffeur for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening; Lalo was a must every year.
In 1997, Exantus began to experience some challenging health difficulties that threatened his livelihood. His wife prayed to God, if it was in His will, for an extension of life so that Exantus may see his four children thrive into young adults. And God did!! This was just the beginning of what he was to endure for the next 26 years of his life. Although very challenging, he never took his eyes off his Lord and Savior. He was a wise, kind, humble, sarcastic, and hard-working man of God. He opened up his home to many family members in their time of need. His faith never diminished in what God could continue to do in his life through his wife, children, and extended family. God gave him the strength to stand back up again and again and again and again. On April 28, 2024, Exantus was called home to his Lord and Savior at the tender age of 70. Although his mission here is complete, his legacy lives on through his wife, Yolande, his children Edenson, Wilkens, Edlande, El-Karine, sons in law, Clifford Michel and Junior Elmera, daughter in law Maquentta Dixon and grandchildren, Malachi, Zachary, Jaella, and Julien. In addition, Exantus is survived by his younger sisters and brothers; Clairmina Cheridor, Charlecina Paul, Christelle, Dieula, Eugene, Frantz, Wismick Mytil Etienne and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Your memory will forever be carried in our hearts.
