Flore Belizaire Obituary

Flore Henriette Belizaire was born on January 13, 1943, in Grand-Rivière-du-Nord, Haiti, as the fourth of eight children to the late Prima Mars (Benjamin) and Louis Mars. On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, Flore peacefully went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loved ones, at her residence in Boonton, New Jersey.

Flore began her career as an elementary school teacher in Haiti, where she found joy in nurturing the curiosity of young minds. On July 9, 1966, she married Teuchler Daniel Belizaire, and together they embarked on a new chapter in life. Following her marriage, Flore immigrated to the United States, where she embraced her role as a stepmother to Harold Belizaire with grace and strength. Later, she and Teuchler were blessed with two children, Diems Belizaire and Flore-Nadeige Belizaire Lovett, who completed their loving family.

Upon arriving in New York, Flore initially worked as a Nursing Assistant. Driven by her passion for creativity, she earned her cosmetology license in 1978 and opened a hair salon in her Far Rockaway, Queens, home. She supplemented her income by working as a bus attendant for the New York City Board of Education. A talented seamstress, Flore took pride in designing and sewing her own stylish dresses, reflecting her unique sense of fashion.

Flore found joy in the simple pleasures of life: watching her favorite soap opera, The Guiding Light, shopping, and connecting with her siblings through long phone conversations. She cherished family time, spending leisurely weekends on road trips around Far Rockaway, Brooklyn, and Long Island with her husband happily driving and children in tow, bonding with siblings and cousins.

After many years in Far Rockaway, Flore and her husband retired to their beautiful home in Lake Worth, Florida, where they enjoyed a peaceful life of leisure. Despite the ups and downs that life presented, Flore and Teuchler remained steadfast in their commitment to one another, standing by each other through thick and thin.

As Flore and Teuchler began to age and require more medical attention, they relocated to New Jersey to be closer to their children and grandchildren, ensuring they were surrounded by family support and love during their later years. Teuchler passed away on November 29, 2011, leaving Flore a widow after 45 years together.

Flore faced significant health challenges throughout her life, demonstrating incredible strength and resilience in overcoming them not once, but multiple times. Her unwavering spirit and determination to persevere through adversity were truly inspiring to all who knew her. Flore is now reunited in death with her parents, Prima Mars (Benjamin) and Louis Mars; her sisters, Nelly Augustin and Lunise Mars; her brother, Villehardouin Jerome; and her beloved husband of 45 years, Teuchler Belizaire.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her stepson, Harold Belizaire, and his wife, Rose Marie; her son, Diems Belizaire; her daughter, Flore-Nadeige Belizaire Lovett, and her husband, Ralph; her grandchildren: Harold Belizaire Jr., Roselene (Belizaire) Cribbs and her husband, Chris; David, Alyesha, Jaelyn, and Jordan Lovett; her great-grandchildren: Mayiah Belizaire, Don Smalls III, Kristelene Cribbs, Arianna, and Macari Lovett, and H’enri Wade-Chatman. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Lizzette Jerome; her brothers, Larrieux Mars, Arnobe Mars, and Charles Andre Mars; her sister, Yanick Michel; her brothers-in-law: Emmanuel Belizaire and his wife, Ida; Jean-Robert Almonor and his wife, Cynthia; and Christopher Henry Mondestin. Her sisters-in-law, Christiana (Belizaire) Raphael and her husband, Raymond, and Marie Lucie Belizaire, along with a host of loving cousins, adoring nieces and nephews, and a multitude of treasured friends, who also mourn her passing.
