Gabriel Francillon Obituary

A man of quiet strength, unwavering determination, and boundless generosity, Gabriel “Raphael” Francillon lived a life defined by service to his family and his community.

Born on February 19, 1960, in Jonc-Dodin D'Aquin, Haiti, to Méritès Francillon and Mélita René, Gabriel attended École Nationale Duval Duvalier in Vieux Bourg D'Aquin before moving to Port-Au-Prince to continue his education at a trade school.

In 1984, he became a first-time father to his daughter, Kidalie. A moment that deepened his sense of responsibility and purpose, and set the course for the remainder of his life. That same year, he made the courageous decision to move to Saint Martin, where he worked at both Mullet Bay Resort and Cupecoy Beach Club, building the foundation for the future he envisioned.

In 1987, Gabriel immigrated to the United States, driven by his commitment to providing for his family. He later joined Kings Supermarket, where he built a dedicated career, serving in various roles for over 30 years before retiring. Never one to stop growing and learning, he enrolled in evening courses at Bloomfield College in the late 1990s while working full-time, earning his accounting certification. In 1996, he married his wife, Irene, and together they welcomed their two daughters, Widmaer and Shakira.

Gabriel was passionate about politics, current events, and soccer. Above all, he was devoted to uplifting his hometown of Jonc Dodin. As a proud member of the organization Jonc-Dodin p'ap Perî, he was instrumental in building a community center, constructing a road connecting a remote village to the main road, and championing a solar energy initiative for the village. Though his health took an unexpected turn in August 2025, preventing him from seeing the first phase of the solar project completed, his vision laid the foundation for its success.

Whether it was a fundraiser, a building project, or quietly paying school fees for a child in need, Gabriel was always the first to give—selflessly and without hesitation. Supporting others was not just something he did; it was who he was.

Gabriel passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026. He leaves behind not only a family who loved him deeply, but also a community forever shaped by his generosity and grace.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Francillon; his daughters, Kidalie Francillon Lemaine, Dr. Widmaier Beverly Francillon, and Shakira Destiny Francillon; his grandchildren, Jonathan James Lemaine, Jr., and Kayla Faith Lemaine; his siblings, Lenore Malbranche, Metila Charles, Estelina Marquis, René Francillon, Telcila Francillon, and Matancile Francillon; and a cherished extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends across the United States, Canada, Saint Martin, Brazil, France, and Haiti, all of whom will miss him dearly.
