Grady (aka Ben) was born to his beautiful mother, Evelyne, on April 5th, 1992 at Newark Beth Israel Hospital. He attended most of his schooling in Linden New Jersey, graduating from Soehl Middle School in 2007 and Linden High School in 2011.
Grady was passionate about basketball. He played for Eben-Ezer's SDA basketball team and was one of the best players on the court. Outside of the league, he can be found at the neighborhood's basketball court. His moves weren't just on the court. He also was a great dancer and the life of any party. When Ben walked in, the crowd gravitated to him. His energy was palpable and his smile was infectious.
Grady was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyne. Grieving her death was probably one of his biggest challenges as they were very close. He often referred to her as his "first love" and his "light". Despite this great loss, he strived to make her proud. He started his own clothing line called "Guice Supply" which sold urban street clothing.
From bucket hats to t-shirts, hoodies, and legging sets, he kept it fresh.
He is survived by his father, Chuck Jilus, his brother, Jude Jilus, his sister, Sophie Jilus, his maternal aunt Fernelle Valery, his godfather, Eddy Charles, and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Grady's life was short but it was impactful. He showed many who was lucky enough to know him how to persevere through hardships, hustle and grow, and rise above the negativity that often plagues the youth. He was wise beyond his years and he shared his wisdom with those he loved. He will forever be missed.
