Obituary

Hermanie Laborde, born on July 1, 1926 in Leogane, Haiti as Hermanie Marcelus Marcelin Charles, sadly passed away on August 1, 2023. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who filled our lives with love and warmth. Hermanie was born to Aristene Marcellus Charles and Helene Bercy. She had six siblings: the late Vital, Nevy, Aricia, Marciane, Arius, and her sister Marcil, the last surviving sibling.

Hermanie's nurturing love was the cornerstone of her family. Her ten living children; Wilner Laborde, Clebert Laborde, Gerda Jean, Romere Laborde, Fanette Jean-Louis, Gina Joseph, Marlene Belanger, Edison Laborde, Eddy Laborde, and Murielle Aban were her pride and joy. Her devotion shaped them into the wonderful individuals they are today.

From a young age, Hermanie worked in the garden and sewed tapestries to support her family after her father passed away. As an adult, with a family of her own, she continued to be a hardworking businesswoman and rice merchant, always working tirelessly to provide for her children and home. She had a deep love for her family and wanted nothing but the best for them.

Throughout her life, Hermanie faced challenges with unwavering determination. She even triumphed over a difficult moment while giving birth to her twins, Edison and Eddy, showing her incredible strength and resilience.

In 1984, Hermanie moved to the US, where she lovingly cared for her grandchildren, passing on her skills and showering them with love. The grandchildren she cared for went on to become doctors, physical therapists, nurses, and more, carrying forward her legacy of compassion.

Her love multiplied through her 40+ grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were blessed to know her tender care and hear her stories. Hermanie's love created a strong bond that will forever hold her family together.

Hermanie had a kind and generous heart. She was known for helping, feeding, and caring for anyone in need, whether they were neighbors or strangers. Her community knew her as a truly giving person.

Anyone that really knew Hermanie knew how she loved to use her spare time. She enjoyed cooking and loved watching Soap Operas, especially General Hospital, which brought her joy and relaxation.

As we gather to remember and honor Hermanie, let's cherish the love, care, and kindness she shared with her family and community. Her legacy of compassion and hard work will forever be a guiding light for us all.

With love from the Laborde family.
