Imene Guercin Emogene, age 102, passed away on January 16th, 2022 in Livingston, NJ. She was born on November 11th, 1919 in Morisseau, L’Asile, Haiti and went on to become a seamstress and agriculturalist. She married Gyptien Emogene in 1938 and had 7 children; Julienne Isaac, Dulia St. Hilaire (Jacques St. Hilaire), Ghislaine Emogene, Augusta Emogene, Karmuller Emogene (Marlene Emogene), Leonel Emogene (Miraltha Emogene), and Dieujuste Emogene (Lourdes Emogene).
She immigrated to the United States in 1978 and resided in Orange, NJ until her death. Her independence, fearlessness, strength, and love of family were her strongest attributes that allowed her to establish herself. She was a caretaker and took pride in raising her family as well as members of her community. She was also an advocate for instilling the importance of education in her family. Imene was a devote Catholic and made sure her children attended service every Sunday, rain or shine. She also enjoyed cooking for her large family.
In addition to her parents and 8 siblings; she was preceded in death by her husband Gyptien, two children Julienne and Ghislaine, and two grandchildren. She is survived by 5 children, 29 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and a host of sorrowing relatives and friends.
