Jean Alex Lespinasse
May 14, 1959 – June 6, 2024
Jean Alex Lespinasse, known affectionately as Alex, was born on May 14, 1959, in La Valleé de Jacmel, Haiti to Rosanna Boursiquot and Willière Lespinasse.
From an early age, Alex loved learning. He completed his primary school education at the Ecole des Frères Léonce Mégie de La Valleé de Jacmel and his secondary schooling at the Lycée Alexandre Pétion de Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He studied at the Laboratoire a la Faculté de Medicine d’Haiti (UEH) and later the Faculté de Droit et des Sciences Economiques (FDSE) de Port-au-Prince, Sciences Juridiques. In America, he earned his Bachelor of Sciences in biology from Bloomfield College and would continue taking courses that interested him at several other institutions.
Alex worked a variety of jobs throughout his life. He was a laboratory technician at L'Hopital de L'Université d’Etat d’Haiti; taught social sciences and chemistry courses at multiple secondary schools in Port-au-Prince; served as a presenter for a Christian music group; was a taxi driver; a security guard; and a UPS package loader, among other things.
On June 24, 1988, Alex married Marie Lourdes Senatus in Port-au-Prince, and the couple immigrated to the U.S. soon after, where they had three children: Jean Stavinski, Einzen, and Lourdline.
Alex stressed to his children the importance of faith and education and routinely assigned them homework after they finished their schoolwork—all done to help prepare them for a better future. He pushed his kids to try different sports (karate, football, swimming, etc.) and would take it upon himself to attend every practice. Alex even became scoutmaster for his sons’ Boy Scout troop to further teach them about survival skills and nature.
Alex enjoyed photography, sewing, playing guitar, recording his favorite programs on audio cassettes and VHS tapes, reading and writing, teaching, learning new languages, and keeping up with current affairs.
Alex knew how important it was to strive for a better life in a new country and always volunteered to help newcomers get acquainted with living in the U.S. He would teach them English grammar, help prepare them for the naturalization exam, give them driving lessons, and did whatever else possible to help—he was truly a generous man who never sought anything in return.
Alex left this world on Thursday, June 6, 2024. He was predeceased by his parents Rosanna and Willière, his brothers Willy, Leonel and Fritz, nephews Karl and Stanley, and several other close relatives.
Alex’s legacy lives on with his wife Marie Lourdes, his children Jean Stavinski, Einzen and Lourdline, his grandchildren, and his siblings Rosemarie, Jean Claude, Jacquline, Yolande and Martine.
Alex’s legacy will also live on through his extended family including in-laws, nieces, nephews, and godchildren. These families are the Antoine family, the Azor family, the Boursiquot family, the Georges family, the Lespinasse family, the Joseph family, the Senatus family, and the Jean-Bart family.
