With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jean Wilson Brutus, whose life, though marked by hardship, was defined by kindness, humility, and quiet force. Today, we gather in sorrow, but also in gratitude for the gift of his life and the love he shared with so many.
Jean Wilson Brutus was born on August 7, 1984, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, at the General Hospital. He was raised in the Kolimon area of the Croix-des-Bouquets commune, where he developed the values of resilience, compassion, and respect that would guide him throughout his life.
In search of safety and opportunity, Jean later lived in Brazil beginning around 2017, remaining there until January 2023. In February 2023, he traveled to Mexico, and on June 20, 2023, he entered the United States through the Hidalgo, Texas, port of entry, in accordance with immigration procedures. He came with hope, believing in the promise of a better future and the chance to build a meaningful life.
Jean was the beloved son of Jackson Brutus and Elienor Semexant, both of whom are remembered with honor and respect.
Jean was a hardworking man and a small merchant who labored honestly to improve his circumstances. He was known to be a peaceful person who avoided conflict and treated others with dignity. During his time in Haiti, Brazil, and Mexico, he was known for living a quiet and peaceful life, guided by compassion, understanding, and kindness.
Those who knew Jean remember him for his calm demeanor and gentle spirit. He spoke softly, carried himself with humility, and approached others with patience and compassion. He was not a man of many words, but his actions spoke volumes.
Jean was a helper at heart. He found purpose in assisting others, whether through physical labor, small acts of service, or simple encouragement. He gave freely of his time and energy, never expecting anything in return. Even when he had little, he shared what he could.
According to publicly reported information, Jean was taken into ICE custody on December 11, 2025. Less than 24 hours later, on December 12, 2025, Jean Wilson Brutus was pronounced deceased. At this time, the cause and manner of his death remain pending and under review.
Jean Wilson Brutus will be remembered as a gentle soul whose life mattered. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the lives of those he touched through his kindness.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who have offered prayers, condolences, and support during this time of profound loss. Special appreciation is extended to Marie Auguste and Evans Belony, who have stood faithfully with the family and continue to seek truth and justice while providing strength throughout this period of mourning.
May Jean Wilson Brutus rest in eternal peace.
