Jeannine Moïse Obituary

Jeannine Moise, went home to be with the Lord in her sleep on July 9, 2018 at 6am. She was born in Corail, Haiti on December 31, 1932 the second eldest of four

children to the deceased Nelia Felix Moise and Phylias Moise. Nelia Felix Moise, a well known  entrepreneur in Corail, worked very hard alongside her four daughters

maintaining a bakery and a wholesale food business. Sophonie Moise Guerrier, the eldest now residing in Connecticut. Agnes Moise Francois, the third youngest residing in California. Nellie Moise Berry the last, living here in New Jersey.

Jeannine completed her secondary education in Corail and later migrated to the

capital to join her siblings. She was a very loving person who touched the lives of all who knew her. The demise of her aunt Christiane leaving behind her cousins Pierre Andre, aka “Pierrot” and Marie Christiane, and other siblings. Her good nature and her natural

tendency to help those who are less fortunate, led to an invitation to visit Canada in 1974 from Pierrot. Later that year receiving yet another invitation from her sister Agnes to join her and her mother Nelia in America. After settling not even a year, due to her friendly disposition, befriended one of Agnes’ close friends who offered to bring her only daughter Marie Josee to America. Her only son, Gaspard soon followed a few years later.

Jeanine achieved the American dream by purchasing her first home in 1982 in Brooklyn New York. She opened her home to many who were in need, always ready to offer a hot meal and shelter to fellow Haitians.. Working primarily as a personal care assistant for many years, then later becoming a matron in the public school bus system, where she assisted with the mentally challenged, doing so until her retirement  in 1996.

Jeannine’s wish to return home to Haiti following retirement suddenly became a reality and also short lived due to her poor health. After spending a few years in

La Plaines, Haiti where she resided. Establishing friendships with both young and old, impacting their lives by providing meals, shelter and monetary contributions as

she previously did in America.

In 2006 she became very ill and had to be rushed back to America.

Unfortunately, soon after she was diagnosed with kidney failure and had to remain in the states permanently for treatment, where she began a regimen of weekly dialysis.

The first week of July 2018, “Jea”, as she was known by all, decided in a

conversation with daughter that she was tired and was ready to meet her maker. Stated, “may his will be done.” On July 9, at 6am, she was found unresponsive by grandson and was later pronounced dead.

Jeannine is survived by her two children, Gaspard Moise, and Marie Josee Champagne Jules. Ten grandchildren, Marjorie, Cassandra, Paul, Chloe, Gaspard Junior, Quincy, Gabrielle, Nathan, Lydia, and Emmanuella.
