Jimmy Alphonse Obituary

It is with great sadness and a lot of emotion that we learned of the disappearance of my brother-in-law Jimmy Alphonse, previously known as “Decereste”, a beloved father, and friend of the Irvington community. Jimmy peacefully passed away on November 15, 2024, at the age of 52, and following a heart attack.

Jimmy was born on January 15, 1972, in Desdunes a town located in the department of Artibonite, Haiti. Jimmy was the only son of Jean Alphonse and Lucifie Paul who passed away last year in December. Jimmy grew up with a passion for the outdoors and a deep love for his family. After graduating from Elementary school, he went to Port-Au-Prince in 1980 to continue his Secondary at St. Thomas D'Aquin and D'Emile Roumain, Training Center, after that studied at the faculty of Law of Gonaives and studied accounting science.

In 1999, Jimmy received his green card to come to United States, where he began to work very hard to support himself and put himself in school. He briefly attended Essex County College for a better life because he believed that education was the key to opening any door. Jimmy worked for several companies. Outside of work, Jimmy liked to go to the gym, and he liked to travel outside of America.

After a few years, Jimmy decided to go to Haiti, where he met his first wife and had a son with her. After a little while, Jimmy lost contact with his son. At the beginning of this year, Jimmy received news from his ex-wife about his son who killed himself. After Jimmy's mother passed away three months before his son's death.

Jimmy believed having a wife was very important for his life. He went back to Haiti, where he met his second wife and got married with her. Out of that matrimonial union a beautiful daughter named Rejounie Alphonse was born.

Jimmy was intelligent, good looking, generous and always had a smile on his face. He was truly a loving and caring person; he was always there for his family members who were in need. To know Jimmy, was to know love and generosity.

Jimmy enjoyed playing with friends and family. He loved to watch soccer and basketball. Jimmy was a father, husband, brother-in-law, and uncle. He is survived by his daughter Rejounie Alphonse, who he loved very much, his wife Finelia Durand, his sister Tisoeur Louis-Baptiste, his sister Sherlande Alphonse, his cousin Lauryn Racine, and other cousins, uncle, nieces and nephews. Jimmy will be remembered for his love, and his passion for helping others. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rest in peace brother-in-law.
