Joseph Lauseus Ceus was born on September 10, 1936, in Desdunnes, Haiti to the parentage of Nauzius Ceus and Philomene Paul. Joseph was the fourth of seven siblings, five brothers and two sisters. Of his family Joseph was noted to be the first to convert to Christianity, devoting his life to the followings of Jesus Christ.
Joseph grew up to become a farmer growing rice, vegetables and raising livestock. In March of 1957, Joseph married Muracia Barthelemy. They had seven children between 1960 – 1972 in Haiti, five of whom survived. As a devoted family man, Joseph constantly sought out ways to provide for his loved ones, internal and extended family through any means – Joseph never shied away from hard labor. As a devout Christian and prayer warrior, Joseph’s intuition and connection with GOD formed an altruistic bond that proved fruitful during his challenging years as a brother, young father, and farmer. Joseph sought out economic opportunity and was granted a United States visa in 1972. Joseph traveled often for economic opportunities and advancement in the States. During a trip to the United States in the summer of 1978, Joseph’s wife gave birth to their sixth child in Newark, NJ. With baby number six in hand Joseph and Muracia returned to Haiti and worked on a plan to emigrate the whole family of eight to the States.
After years of effort, saving and traveling to and from Haiti, Joseph successfully emigrated his entire family in 1988. Over that time, Joseph worked in various occupations to support his family abroad and in the States. Joseph’s work included being a baker and a hospital custodian. His work was focused on providing for his family, their education, and economic stability.
Joseph’s hard-working ethic blossomed for many new generations. Joseph was blessed with the opportunity to witness the extended family of his brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews as well as their children live, laugh, love and grow in their own families. Joseph was blessed to meet, greet and hold his twelve grandchildren, even meet and hang with some of his great grandchildren.
On July 11, 2025, Joseph was called to his eternal home to be with the Lord. Joseph is survived by his wife Muracia Ceus, six children: Christine Sylvain, Evelyne Jules, Guettie Saint-Louis, Godson Ceus, Goodman Ceus, Daniella Ceus, 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren.
Joseph L. Ceus was an endeared father of six, husband, brother, uncle, grandpa, great-grandpa, and most importantly child of GOD.
May he rest in peace.
