Jude Raymond

Jude Raymond was born on December 5, 1988, in Carrefour, Haiti, to Justin Raymond and the late Elsie Bontant. From an early age, Jude developed the strength, resilience, and determination that would carry him throughout his life.

On October 25, 2001, at the age of twelve, Jude came to the United States from Haiti. Upon arriving in the United States, he settled in Union, New Jersey, where he lived with Viergela Raymond. Only a short time after his arrival, his family experienced the heartbreaking loss of his mother, Elsie, who passed away in November 2001. Despite experiencing such tremendous change and loss at a young age, Jude continued moving forward with quiet strength.

Jude attended Union High School before later attending Orange High School, where he graduated in 2006. Athletics quickly became an important part of his life. Jude loved both basketball and football and was extremely competitive whenever he stepped onto a court or field. He also had a passion for weightlifting and physical fitness and took pride in staying strong and in great shape.

In 2007, Jude answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. During his four years of military service, he worked as a mechanic in the engine room aboard ship. His role required hard work, discipline, technical skill, and perseverance. Jude completed his term of service in 2011 and returned home as a proud United States Navy veteran.

After completing his service in the Navy, Jude spent four months living with his aunt, Yolande, followed by five months living with his brother Michel. During this period of transition back into civilian life, he began preparing for the next chapter of his journey.

Jude later enrolled at Monmouth University, where his love of football continued. He became part of the football program’s practice squad, allowing him to continue pursuing the sport he enjoyed while furthering his education.

Eventually, Jude made his home in Harlem, New York, where he worked as a security officer. Harlem became the place where Jude would spend the later years of his life, continuing to build a life characterized by his independence, easygoing nature, and love for the people around him.

As competitive as Jude could be in sports, his everyday personality was relaxed and easygoing. He was never in a rush. Jude seemed to move through life at his own pace, rarely allowing things around him to disturb his calm nature. He was lighthearted, loved to laugh, and could often be found smiling or joking with the people around him.

Jude never married and did not have children, but he was surrounded by a large family who loved him deeply. He was a son, brother, cousin, teammate, friend, and veteran whose presence became an important part of the lives of those around him.

Jude departed this life on July 10, 2026, in Harlem, New York, at the age of 37. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Elsie Bontant Raymond. Jude leaves to cherish his memory his father, Justin Raymond; his brothers, Michel Raymond, Mystral Raymond, Joaneme Raymond, Alex Raymond, Ketel Raymond, Judson Raymond, and Jeff Raymond; his sisters, Justine Borgella, Wislene Mathurin, Marie A. Raymond, and Bichelène Raymond; along with his many cousins, extended family members, friends, fellow veterans, teammates, and all those who were blessed to know him.

Jude’s journey carried him from Carrefour, Haiti, to the United States; from Union and Orange, New Jersey, to service aboard ship in the United States Navy; and ultimately to Harlem, New York, which he called home. Yet the greatest part of his legacy cannot be measured by the places he lived, schools he attended, uniforms he wore, or accomplishments he achieved.

It will be found in the memories.

It will be found in the laughter shared with his brothers, sisters, cousins, and friends. It will be found in the stories that will continue to be told about him. It will be found in the image of that familiar smile and in the countless moments when Jude simply enjoyed being surrounded by the people he loved.

Those who knew him will remember a man who was strong yet easygoing, competitive yet lighthearted, and almost always ready with a laugh and a smile. Though his time with us ended far too soon, the joy Jude brought into the lives of others will not be forgotten.
