Lise Lapeine, lovingly known as “Tapis”, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on May 12, 2026. Born on September 5, 1944, in Petit-Goave, Haiti, to Antoinette Valcin and Saint-Dorame Lapeine. Lise grew up surrounded by the warmth and traditions of her loving family in Petit Goave. She was one of ten children, five of whom preceded her in death: Abraham Lapeine, Jeaninne Lapeine, Louimene Lapeine, Claire Lapeine and Wilson Lapeine.
Lise completed her primary education at L’Ecole Nationale de Filles de Petit Goave, Haiti. Lise eventually embarked on a career as a merchant. Lise was a devoted mother to her sons; Sonny Pierre Philippe, Jean Luc Lapeine and adoptive children, David and Milouse Lapeine, whom she raised with unwavering love. Her nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride. Though Lise had a gentle presence and was soft-spoken, she was a strong woman. Her quiet strength was evident in the way she faced life’s challenges.
After surviving the horrific earthquake in Haiti in 2010, Lise moved to the United States in 2011 to live with her son, Sonny and his family, where she resided until her illness and her ultimately passing.
Throughout her life, Lise touched the hearts of all who knew her. She was known for her kindness and generosity. She enjoyed collecting things for family and friends in Haiti. She would often visit every garage sale in the neighborhood during the summer months in hope of finding “good deals” to send to her family and friends in Haiti. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled in her family and the memories she created with friends and loved ones.
Lise is survived by her sons; Sonny Pierre Philippe and Jean Luc Lapeine, adoptive son & daughter David and Milouse, daughter in-law Marie Pierre Philippe and Martine Lapeine, her grandchildren; Brielle and Ethan Pierre Philippe, Thierry Junior, Clifford, Felix, Sean Gabriel and Terrence Lapeine. Her brothers and sisters; Adele and her children Lucie, Adeline, Emmanuel, Yvette & Immacula, Luc Lapeine and his children, Carmen Lapeine and her family, Clemene Lapeine, and Borno Lapeine and his children Miriam, Harold-Bony and Derly Lapeine. She is also survived by countless nephews and nieces; Romel, Camy, Adeline, Lucie, Yvette, Alix, Guylaine, Nathalie, Chantal, Réginald, Stéphane and Antoinette.
A special acknowledgement to the Pierre Philippe, who are extended family to Lise and shared many years with her.
Lise will be deeply missed, but her spirit will remain forever in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, extended family, and all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Psalms 32:18
“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit”.
You will remain in our hearts forever.
MAY YOU REST IN THE GENTLE ARMS OF YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN.
