Margalie Amilcar Lemaine, affectionately known to all as “Maggie,” was born on July 5, 1961, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to the late Jeanine Pierre-Marceant and Mercidieu Amilcar. From the very beginning, her life was marked by faith, resilience, and a quiet strength that would later inspire everyone who had the blessing of knowing her.
Maggie was the third of five siblings and grew up surrounded by family, culture, and love. Her early years were shaped between Haiti and the United States, as she spent many summers visiting her mother in New York while continuing her schooling in Haiti. She attended Aupa Outroe Ogalou School and later Pensionnat du Christ-Roi, where she completed her middle and junior high education. In 1976, Maggie officially migrated to the United States, carrying with her the values of discipline, perseverance, and deep faith that would guide her for the rest of her life.
Faith became a cornerstone of Maggie’s life at an early age. She worshiped at the Church of God on Rogers Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, where she was actively involved in the youth fellowship. In the summer of 1977, she made a life-changing decision to be baptized and accept Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. It was in this very youth group that Maggie met the love of her life and lifelong partner, Jacques Lemaine.
Maggie completed her high school education at Samuel J. Tilden High School, graduating with a Regents diploma in June of 1980. Not long after, Jacques proposed to her at Prospect Park in Brooklyn — the beginning of a love story that would span over four decades. They were married on September 1, 1984, beginning a union rooted in friendship, faith, ministry, and unwavering devotion.
Together, Maggie and Jacques built not only a beautiful family, but a powerful ministry through music. Music was one of Maggie’s greatest passions. Gifted with an extraordinary singing voice, she used her talent to glorify God and uplift others. In 1979, she and Jacques joined a group called Les Miracles , which later became Golden Light . Over the years, they produced Haitian gospel Kompa music that touched countless lives, releasing albums including Fòk sa Chanje , Suspan n Kritiké , Santifye’w , and Sa sa Koute’w . As a duo, they released Lè ya Rive , Syèl la pa Piyay , and Pa Engra . Their ministry extended beyond music when they both graduated as evangelists and chaplains in October of 2019. For more than 40 years, Maggie faithfully served God through song, worship, and ministry alongside her beloved husband.
Education and lifelong learning were deeply important to Maggie. She began her professional journey at Kingsborough Community College in 1982, becoming a Lab Technician. After starting her family, Maggie faced seasons that tested her physically and emotionally — but she never allowed challenges to define her. Instead, she pressed forward with determination, faith, and grace. She completed her studies in Medical Billing and Coding at Medgar Evers College in 1994.
Answering a higher calling, Maggie pursued her true passion — nursing. She attended Long Island College of Nursing, earning her Licensed Practical Nurse certification in 1999. She went on to become a Registered Nurse in 2001 and later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The College of Saint Elizabeth in 2013. Even toward the end of her life, Maggie continued striving for excellence, pursuing her Master of Science degree with aspirations of becoming a Nurse Practitioner.
Maggie’s nursing career spanned more than two decades, during which she served with compassion, professionalism, and integrity. She held many roles, including Assistant Director of Nursing, Nursing Supervisor, MDS Coordinator, Case Manager, and Staff Nurse. To Maggie, nursing was not just a profession — it was a ministry. She cared for her patients the same way she cared for her family: with tenderness, patience, and unwavering dedication.
Above all else, Maggie cherished her family. Her marriage to Jacques was the foundation of her life — a partnership built on love, prayer, music, laughter, and mutual respect. Their union was blessed with three children: Jonathan James, Christina Elizabeth, and Michael Anthony Jacques. Being a mother was one of Maggie’s greatest joys, and becoming a grandmother brought her immeasurable happiness.
Maggie found joy in life’s simple and beautiful moments — date nights, family barbecues, holiday gatherings, weddings, concerts, church revivals, and traveling. She loved fashion and carried herself with elegance and confidence. Stylish, graceful, and vibrant, Maggie had a presence that lit up every room she entered.
Maggie also had a deep love for fashion and took great pride in her appearance. Stylish and elegant, she expressed herself through her clothing with confidence and grace. Whether dressed for church, a family gathering, or a simple outing, Maggie carried herself with poise and beauty, always reflecting the vibrant spirit within her.
Life brought Maggie moments of profound loss and hardship, yet she met every challenge with courage and faith. Even in seasons of grief and physical struggle, she remained steadfast, continuing to love, serve, and give of herself fully. Surrounded by her family and anchored in her faith, Maggie fought valiantly until the very end.
On the morning of February 2, 2026, Margalie peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord. She now rests in the arms of her Heavenly Father and is reunited with her beloved son, Jonathan.
Margalie embodied love in its purest form. Gentle, kind, calm, and soft-spoken, she carried a quiet strength that touched everyone she encountered. She was thoughtful, generous, observant, and protective of those she loved. A woman of peace and reconciliation, Maggie sought understanding even in disagreement. She wore many hats — woman of God, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother, nurse, mentor, caregiver, singer, and friend — and she wore each one with grace.
Margalie leaves behind her devoted husband of 41 years, Jacques Lemaine ; her loving children Christina Elizabeth and her husband Ricardo Astacio-Felix , and Michael Anthony Jacques and his wife Linda Christine Lamitie-Lemaine ; her daughter-in-love Kidalie Francillon Lemaine ; and her cherished grandchildren Jonathan James Lemaine Jr. and Kayla Faith Lemaine .
She is also survived by her beloved siblings, extended family members, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and a host of friends and spiritual family whose lives were forever changed by her love.
Though her physical presence is no longer with us, Margalie’s legacy lives on — in her faith, her family, her music, and the countless lives she touched. When we honor her life, we honor love itself. Her radiant smile and gentle voice will be deeply missed until the day we meet again.
