Margarette Poinville Obituary

Margarette Poinville was born on October 2, 1954, in Petit-Goaves, Haiti, to Alida Gastin-Misere and Lafontan Poinville. As the eldest of three daughters, Margarette embraced her role as a leader and caretaker from an early age. She spent her childhood in Port-au-Prince, living with her aunt and cousins, where she formed deep connections with family and community that would last a lifetime.

At 20, Margarette's life took a significant turn when she met Milord Jean Michel in Port-au-Prince. Their love blossomed, leading to marriage on January 10, 1980. Together, they welcomed their only child, Myriam Jean Michel, who became the light of Margarette's life and a source of pride. Jean Michel family, known for their warmth and vibrant gatherings, had embraced her with open arms, recognizing the potential for connection beyond mere blood ties.

In 1986, Margarette made the courageous decision to move permanently to the United States, seeking new opportunities for herself and her family. Upon arriving, she quickly found her place in the community and developed a profound connection to her faith. As an active member of her church, Margarette devoted herself to serving others, embodying the values of compassion and generosity. She often hosted gatherings, sharing her delicious home-cooked meals and welcoming friends and neighbors with open arms.

Margarette was known for her warm smile and infectious laughter. She had a remarkable ability to uplift those around her, offering words of wisdom and encouragement. Her passion for mentoring young people was evident; she enjoyed sharing life lessons and guidance, hoping to inspire them to pursue their dreams with confidence.

Throughout her life, Margarette faced personal challenges, particularly after the loss of her sister, which deeply affected her. However, even in her struggles, she remained a pillar of strength for her daughter, encouraging Myriam to embrace her ambitions and stay true to herself.

Beyond her dedication to family and faith, Margarette had a profound love for cooking. She took great joy in preparing meals for gatherings, often trying new recipes and sharing her culinary delights with those she loved. Her kitchen was a gathering place, filled with laughter, conversation, and the aroma of her favorite dishes.

Margarette Poinville passed away on October 6, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering faith. She is survived by her daughter, Myriam Jean Michel; her sister, Jacqueline Poinville-Misere; her nieces, Rachelle and Kesnearsha Dorvillier; and a wide circle of cousins and friends who will forever cherish her memory and the positive impact she had on their lives.

Margarette’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, reminding us of the power of love, community, and the importance of lifting each other up.
