Marie Acelia Delva Pauleus was born on January 20, 1938, in Villard, Haiti, to Sanady Delva and Celima Bozieux. From the earliest days of her life, she was grounded in faith, generosity, and a deep commitment to serving others. These values shaped not only her family, but entire communities touched by her life.
Marie completed her formal education through the eighth grade, after which she devoted herself to work, family, and service. She became a seamstress, a trade that reflected her patience, skill, and care for detail. Through her hands, she created garments, but more importantly, she provided support and dignity to those around her.
In Haiti, Marie’s faith and leadership were unmistakable. With unwavering devotion, she opened her living room and backyard to sponsor and host a congregation of more than 350 people. What began as gatherings in her home grew steadily through her commitment, hospitality, and prayer. This faithful work eventually became a church, rooted in the very space where she welcomed people with love, humility, and service. Her home was not only a refuge for her family, but a sanctuary for many.
In February 1979, Marie immigrated to the United States, passing through Nassau, Bahamas, carrying with her deep faith, strength, and an unshakable work ethic. She built a life defined by devotion, perseverance, and care for others.
Marie married Joseph Pauleus, born December 7, 1941, and together they built a family grounded in love and commitment. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was defined by sacrifice and unconditional love. She was known as a caregiver in every sense of the word—always stepping in, always providing, always putting others before herself.
Her influence was especially profound within her family. She played a vital role in raising children and grandchildren, offering stability, guidance, and love across generations. Her presence was steady and reassuring, and her wisdom was given quietly, but powerfully.
Marie leaves behind a large and loving family who carry her legacy forward. She is survived by her siblings Aubrey Delva and Aulain Delva; her devoted husband Joseph O. Pauleus; and her children Miramene Aupont, Simone Andre, Kerline Andre, Ronald Andre, Edzer Pauleus, Evenaux Pauleus, Myralise Pauleus-Cadet, Mykelson Pauleus, Osly Pauleus, and Joel Pauleus.
She was blessed with many grandchildren, including Manilla Bishop, Allandy Diana Jacques, Birlinda Monestime, Nathalie Derosena, Nicolas Aupont, Steven Mendez, Josuas Alcidas, Daniel Andre, John Andre, Elijah Andre, Ryan Pauleus, Derrick Pauleus, Jana Pauleus, Jason Pauleus, Shelise Cadet, Sarah Cadet, Zachary Cadet, Khalin Pauleus, Nathaniel Pauleus, Kyra Pauleus, Marcus Pauleus, and Mollie Pauleus.
She also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren Tobiah Jackson, Kennedy Bishop, Athena Diana Jacques, Mira Mielle Adrienne Derosena, Esperanza Mendez, and Alexandro Mendez.
Marie Acelia Delva Pauleus lived a life of quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering service. She did not seek recognition, yet her impact was vast. Her legacy lives on in the church she helped build, the family she nurtured, and the values she instilled in generations to come.
On January 2, Marie was called to rest. Though she will be deeply missed, her life remains a testament to love, sacrifice, and faith.
May she rest in eternal peace.
