In Loving Memory of Marie Denise Barthelus
Marie Denise Barthelus was born on December 15, 1959, in Dorbeil, L'Artibonite, Haiti, to the late Nicholas Joseph and Maxia Louis Cadet. She was the youngest of eight siblings and shared a close and loving bond with her family throughout her life. Denise was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Icela Policart. She completed high school and attended some college in Haiti before leaving the country at the age of 19 to begin a new chapter in Brooklyn, New York.
Shortly after arriving in Brooklyn, Denise met the love of her life, Nondieu Barthelus. Before long, they were married and began building a beautiful family together. Denise found her greatest joy in raising her children and being an active, loving presence in their lives. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, spending every moment she could with her children, cooking their favorite meals and taking them to the park on Saturdays.
As her children grew into adults and began families of their own, Denise embraced her role as a grandmother with the same boundless love and devotion. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, creating lasting memories and surrounding them with warmth, care, and unconditional love.
Denise enjoyed listening to music, watching classic television shows, and spending time watching YouTube. She especially loved playing Jenga with her granddaughter, moments that brought her great joy and laughter. She treasured the time she spent with her family and remained deeply connected to her roots in Haiti. Denise shared a special bond with her brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family, and she always valued every opportunity to gather, celebrate, and create lasting memories with those she loved. Her kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her.
On July 5, 2026, Denise was called home to be with the Lord. While her passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of those who loved her, her legacy of love, faith, strength, and devotion to her family will live on forever.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Nondieu Barthelus; her three children, Bianca Barthelus, Valens Barthelus, and Edernst Barthelus and his wife, Kimberly Barthelus; and her cherished grandchildren, Jada Williams, Rebeka Barthelus, Ryell Barthelus, Raylin Barthelus, and Ethan Barthelus. She is also lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters, Mardochee Joseph, Josette Joseph, Galilee Joseph, Enide Joseph Lormeus, Leonel Joseph, Carline Joseph Paul, and Chantal Joseph; as well as her nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of extended family members and dear friends. Her love, kindness, generosity, and beautiful spirit touched countless lives, and her memory will forever be cherished by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
Though she is no longer with us in body, Denise's love, wisdom, compassion, and beautiful spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Her life was a testament to unconditional love, selfless devotion, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in our hearts.
