Marie Miralda Alexis (affectionately known as Dada or Ti Dada) was born on August 28, 1974, in Cabaret, Haiti, to the late Suzanne Adila Genevil and Dantolex Alexis. She completed her studies in Haiti during her teenage years. Dada had a passion for cooking and baking, as well as listening and dancing to Haitian Konpa. She traveled throughout Haiti with her family during her youth and later spent much of her young adulthood in Carrefour, Port-au-Prince. On June 29, 2001, she moved to the Bahamas to join her brother and cousins, leaving behind her eldest daughter, her firstborn. While in Haiti, Dada enjoyed attending Haitian spiritual and traditional events. She loved visiting the rivers in Gros Morne, her mother’s birthplace during vacations, as well as traveling to Léogâne during the Rara festivities, where street bands perform and compete. Léogâne was one of the cities where she spent part of her teenage years, and she often spoke of wanting to have a home there and retire someday. Her favorite Rara band from Léogâne was Mande Granmoun. Dada also loved watching movies and soccer, especially World Cup matches. Her favorite soccer teams were Haiti and Argentina. Dada traveled to the Bahamas seeking better opportunities to support her family. During her time there, she gave life to twin sons. She built strong connections with neighbors, colleagues, friends, and many communities she became part of. Although she gave birth to three children, she was a mother to many more. She found joy in caring for and supporting others, a quality she inherited from her mother, Suzanne an exemplary, loving, and selfless woman. Dada became well known for her generosity in both Haiti and the Bahamas. When she cooked, it often looked as though she were preparing for a celebration because of the many plates she prepared, far more than the number of people living with her. She was always there for everyone, whether or not they asked for help. The qualities she embodied her kindness, strength, and willingness to share her life with others will never be forgotten. The world needs more people like Dada, but we were blessed with the one and only Dada it had. Dada had many friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews with whom she grew up, in addition to her siblings. She was known for her vibrant spirit and her willingness to lead from the front. Loyal and dependable, she had everyone’s back. Her smile, her joyful nature, and her warm, charming presence were contagious. She welcomed everyone she met with love and respect. She was selfless, always putting others before herself. Though small in stature, she was a strong woman with an enormous heart. Her love for helping others was immeasurable. Marie Miralda Alexis continued her mother’s legacy and devoted her life to serving others until her final breath. Though we have lost Dada, her legacy, her smile, her love, her generosity, her spirit, and the memories she created will remain with us forever. On October 5, 2025, Dada was called to be with the Lord, her mother, and her father. She is remembered lovingly by: Her daughter; Her son; Her son; Her brother; Her sister.
