The passing of a loved one is never easy, nor does it conform to our wishes, rhyme, or reason. Today the Mirville/Nazaire siblings say goodbye to their youngest sister. Marise Gerve nee Nazaire 66 and 8 months old, departed from this life on July 29, 2023.
She is predeceased by her Mother Marie Dieudonne Berry and Felix Nazaire. She was the apple of their eye and the youngest child born of this union. As a child, she was affectionately called “Ti Peint”. She was a humorous child who would often get into mischief. She had a knack for recounting stories and mimicking others which would make others laugh. She was quick-witted and observant. She was highly intelligent and would attain skills quickly. She would say that she inherited our grandmother’s cooking skills which included her pain patate recipe.
She emigrated to Jersey City in 1979, where she joined her sister Micheline, Brother-in-law Abner. She quickly adapted to the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoyed walking around to learn about her surroundings. Marise shortly thereafter, became the mother of Guerschom Felix Nazaire, who we affectionally refer to as “Jerry”. Her marriage with Urbain Gerve, welcomed her last son Samuel Gerve also known as “Sammy’.
Marise was a hard worker and homemaker. She was helpful and would take over most tasks when you asked for her assistance. She was all in when you needed her. She worked as a Security Enforcement Officer for 20 years at the University of Medicine and Dentistry. She was well-liked by her co-workers for her work ethic and humorous observations of the day-to-day activities. Due to on-the-job injuries and her declining health Marise retired in 2017. During this time period, she chose to focus on attending church on Sundays, spending time with family, listening to music, and spending hours at the mall.
Over the past few years, Marise’s health began to decline. She persevered but was ultimately called home to her Savior. We know she was welcomed by her Mother and her Father and a host of other loved ones. Although it is a terrible blow to our family we will strive together until we are all reunited in Paradise.
Marise leaves behind to mourn her sons Guerschom and Samuel, her grandchildren Traesean, Aliyah, Sophia, Imani Marie, and Braxton, daughter in law: Natacha, her siblings Gertrude, Yolande, Micheline, Giselle, Guy, Carl, Fernande and Frantz, her brother-in-law Abner, her Sisters in law Wilda and Marlene, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
