Martine Dorcent was born on May 25, 1976, in St. Marc, Haiti, to Marie Benita Beaublanc (Deceased) and Lucien Dorcent. She completed her early education at Mere Sainte Alvire in St. Marc before leaving Haiti at the age of 13. Upon arriving in the United States, she continued her studies at Vailsburg Elementary School and later attended Central High School.
After high school, Martine worked at the Maplewood Country Club before dedicating herself to a career in caregiving. With a deep passion for helping others, she spent over a decade providing care and comfort to those in need.
Martine was a loving and compassionate person, always willing to lend a helping hand even when she was in hospital or rehab. She had a generous heart, often asking for money not for herself but to support a friend in need. Martine was an excellent cook. Her favorite dish to prepare for family and friends was fish, oxtail, and lalo mixed with spinach.
Martine would often ask me, Did you and Papa eat? No matter how she was feeling, she was always thinking of us. I’d reassure her, Yes, we’re okay—but it’s you we’re worried about. And with her usual calm strength, she’d simply reply, “I’m okay.
Her kindness and selflessness defined her character.
On March 29th, Martine was called home to be with the Lord. She leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.
She is survived by:
• Her Father, Lucien Dorcent
• Her Sisters: Jocelyn, Leonide, Fifi, Peggy, and Lucette
• Her Brothers: Quitnot and Godson
• Her Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, and many dear friends.
Martine will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for those around her.
