Respire Lavi | Breathe in Life — a poem by Patrick Sylvain
Aprè yon kè kase,
Mwen santi lavi m’ ap depafini.
Nan mitan lannuit,
M’al chita bò lanmè
Pou m’ respire lavi
Tèlman yon anvi mouri
Anpare vi m’ ki poko menm fleri.
Matla somèy mwen tounen yon rivyè tristès
K’ap anglouti espwa aprè yon lanmourez pati
Pou m’ eskive pwa senkant deprim,
Mwen fòse leve gade zetwal k’ap file.
Aprè yon kè kase,
M’evite nwaye nan lapèn.
Lang mwen tounen yon eponj
K’ap souse yon debòdman kriye
Pou chagren pa inonde kè m’.
O! Prens Tan,
Gerisè blesi
Pote yon pansman solèy
Pou refleri fon kè m’ ak yon jaden kalen
Kote iwondèl lajwa ka polinize lanmou.
In English
After an excruciating heart break,
I’ve felt my life depleting.
In the middle of the night,
I’ve sought refuge by the sea
To breathe in life.
I’ve been agonized and coaxed by death’s call
And my life has not fully blossomed.
My bed, a river of sorrow,
Engulfs hopes following a lover’s egress.
Sensing the weight of depression,
I forced myself to actively stargaze.
After an excruciating heart break,
I avoided drowning in my anguish.
My tongue became a sponge,
Sucking up flooded tears.
Prince of time,
Healer of wounds
Grant me a sun-rayed cure
To replenish my heart with a cuddling
Garden, where Streamertail Hummingbirds
Can pollinate a stronger strain of affection.
