We gather here today not just in mourning, but in deep gratitude for the life of Nathaniel Petion Jolimere—a life that, while far too short for our hearts, was full of purpose, power, and God-given light.
Nathaniel was born in Brooklyn, New York at Downstate Hospital on November 13th, 2001, to Petion Jolimere and Elmire A. Ais Jolimere. In 2006, the family moved to Maplewood, New Jersey, where Nathan's bright journey through life began to unfold. He attended Marshall Preschool, Tuscan Elementary School, Maplewood Middle School, and graduated from Columbia High School in 2020. Nathan pursued higher education at William Paterson University, where he earned his degree in Finance in 2024. While a junior in college, he began working at JP Morgan Chase in April 2023 – a testament to his hard work, perseverance, and determination.
Nathaniel's life was not defined only by his academic and professional success, but also by his generous spirit and his unwavering dedication to serving others. He was deeply rooted in faith and community, actively involved in his father’s church, Haitian Bethel Baptist Church of Newark, where he served faithfully as a drummer, youth treasurer, choir member, and media team assistant. His faith journey extended to numerous ministries and Bible schools, including Redeemer Baptist Church, First Shiloh Baptist Church, Newborn Wesleyan Church, and Abundant Life Campus Ministries.
Nathan was a leader and role model in every circle he joined. In high school, he served as president of Men with Purpose and was a proud leader of the Minority Achievement Community (MAC). At William Paterson University, he took on leadership roles in several organizations: Treasurer of the Haitian American Student Association, Secretary of the Black Student Union, and member of Brothers for Awareness.
Nathaniel is survived by his loving parents, Petion Jolimere and Elmire A. Ais Jolimere, his dear siblings, Deborah Anne Jolimere-Charles and Salomon Jolimere, and a host of extended family members, church members, friends, and those whose lives were touched by his presence.
If you knew Nathan, even for a moment, you knew joy. You knew laughter. You knew what it meant to be seen, to be cared for, and to feel that undeniable spark of love that lived within him. Nate didn’t just walk into rooms—he lit them up. His laughter could lift your spirit. His words could give you hope. His presence was a gift from God.
Nathan was more than a son and brother. He was a servant. A leader. A builder. A believer. He gave his life fully to his community, to his church, to his school, to his friends, and above all—to God. Nathan carried his responsibilities with grace beyond his years.
Nathan was a comedian and an optimist. He could find the silver-lining in anything. And yet, what many didn’t see was the silent battle he fought every day. Sickle cell anemia took a physical toll on his body—but never on his spirit. Even in pain, Nathan smiled. Even in discomfort, he served. Even in his lowest moments, he lifted others up.
He didn’t want people to see his suffering—not because he was hiding, but because he didn't want to be a burden. He bore his cross quietly, with courage and faith. And while we prayed for his healing here, God had other plans. And now, Nathan is whole. Pain-free. At peace. He has received the ultimate healing—in eternity.
What do we do now? We carry Nathan with us. In the way we serve, in the way we love, in the way we light up rooms just as he did. We honor his legacy by living more selflessly, more joyfully, more faithfully. By being generous. By being kind. By choosing hope when it’s easier to give up.
So today, though our hearts are heavy, let’s also smile—because we knew Nathan. Because we loved Nathan. Because we got to experience God's love through Nathan. Nathan's life, though brief in years, was rich in purpose. He gave us love, laughter, service, and inspiration. His legacy will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
Rest well, Nate. You fought a good fight. You finished the race. You kept the faith.
We’ll carry your light, always.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”
II Timothy 4:7-8 NKJV
