Patricia Smith Obituary

Patricia Smith was born in Essex County, Newark, New Jersey, and raised in the Vailsburg section of Newark. She was the beloved daughter of Bettie Roberson and John Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. Her father passed when Pat was just 10 years old, and her mother departed this life in 2023. That same year, Pat also lost one of her closest friends, Charelle, who held a special place in her heart.

At the time of her passing, Pat resided in Roselle, New Jersey, in Union County. She was a proud graduate of Vailsburg High School, Class of 1985, and went on to attend Bloomfield College, where she pursued studies in business management.

Pat began her career in retail management at Pathmark, where she worked her way up to a managerial position. In 1995, she transitioned into the hospitality industry, where she built an impressive 30-year career. Through dedication and hard work, she rose through the ranks to become a General Manager with Hilton, a role she held with pride and excellence until her passing on April 7, 2026.

Pat was a devoted wife to her husband, Serge Dormeus, with whom she shared 35 loving years of marriage. Together, they raised two daughters, Felicia and Dytisha, who were the center of her world. Even during her illness, her daughters gave her the strength to persevere and fight through each day.

She is survived by her two sisters, Valerie Smith Beeler of East Orange, New Jersey, and Denease Roberson of Savannah, Georgia. Pat also leaves behind a cherished tribe of nieces and nephews—Anthony, Tamia, Keshon, Shamel, TJ, Nana, Nikki, and Anthony Perry—who were her pride and joy. She found great happiness in staying connected with them, sharing laughter, and affectionately calling each by their special nicknames.

Pat was blessed with lifelong friendships, including Lavern Booker, her dear friend of 44 years, and Nadine Adkins, her cherished friend of 35 years. Their daily conversations and unwavering support meant the world to her.

She is also survived by a host of loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, many of whom reside in the South.

Pat will always be remembered for her infectious sense of humor and her ability to bring joy to everyone around her. Even in her most difficult moments, she never lost her ability to make others laugh. Her spirit was kind, generous, and selfless. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether supporting family in need, caring for those she loved, or simply giving back to others.
