Saila Jean Paul Philémon, lovingly known as “Tafoune,” was born on February 28, 1961, in Gonaïves, Haiti. She was born to Anne Marie Theana Jean-François and Orilio Jean Paul; the fifth of 9 children.
She was a devoted wife to Pierre Andre Philémon, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother.
In her early years Saïla attended the Episcopal Congregational Grammar School. Furthering her education, Saila attended the Public Secondary School for Girls ( Lycée Public de Jeunes Filles).
Saïla was a hardworking and determined woman who became a respected entrepreneur. She owned a boutique, managed a farm, and supported others in her community.
Above all, she was a dedicated mother. She raised her children to be respectful, independent, and caring, teaching them important life skills and guiding them with love, strength, and faith. She shared a special bond with each of them and was not only their mother, but also their best friend.
Saïla had a big heart. She loved to cook and found joy in feeding others. She gave generously, even when she had little, and was always there to support family and friends with her kindness and wisdom.
She was strong and resilient, facing life’s challenges with courage. She loved spending time with her family, laughing, traveling, and enjoying simple moments of happiness.
