Sherlie Eloi (known to many as ‘Ferline’) was born in Desdunes, Haiti on 01/24/1965. She is the daughter of Sauveur Dieujuste and Claircina Noel. She began her primary education at ‘Ecole Nationale de Desdunes’. She continued her studies until completion of her secondary education at ‘College Isidor Jean-Louis’ in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. For a significant part of her adult life, Ferline used her skills and formal training as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) and Phlebotomist to care passionately for the disabled and the elderly at assisted-living facilities.
In1984, Ferline immigrated to the United States. There, she and Pierre Eloi who had only crossed paths in Haiti, started a relationship that led to their marital union on May 30, 1992. From their alliance were born Barbara Eloi (now Barbara Mele), Herman Eloi, and Jason Eloi. Barbara’s marriage has extended the family to Guybs Mele, Sherlie’s only son-in-law, and two grandchildren: two-and-a-half-year-old twins Lilah Mele and Noah Mele.
Ferline whose life was dedicated to care for others – devoted her time and goodwill between health care facilities and social activities at Maranatha, Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA), in Newark, New Jersey. At her church, she was known for her unparallelled cooking and bringing delicious dishes at events for the pleasure of the attendees. When not formally caring for patients, she dedicated her life to preparing and giving food to others, donating money to those in need, singing in the church’s choir, and teaching Sabbath School lessons. She had also worked hard for and availed herself of the title of SDA Master Guide, one she is so proud of that she asked that she be dressed in the corresponding uniform for her funeral. A high-volume jokester when in the comfort of her peers, Ferline loved dancing, the outdoors, and most importantly, she loved people.
The very beloved Ferline is survived by her husband Pierre Eloi, children, son-in-law, and grandchildren, as well as by her brothers- Wilbert Dieujuste, Gracia Dieujuste, Wikinson Dieujuste, Fanel Dieujuste, Emmanuel Dieujuste, Stan Dieujuste, and Lunson Dieujuste. She also left behind an avalanche of sisters-in-law, as evidenced by her all-male siblings.
Ferline succumbed to an aggressive and devastating form of cancer in the early afternoon of 03/07/2026 at Morristown Medical Center. She has left, above all, a legacy of helping others.
Pierre I. Eloi, Esq.
