Sylvia Dura Obituary

Sylvia Dura was born on February 16, 1935, to Agenor and Anita Deilette-Dura. She was the second oldest of three children and lived a life marked by faith, strength, humility, service, and love.  Affectionately known as Sr. Sylvia and Madame Wilfrid, she was a woman of God who gave her life to Christ at an early age and remained faithful to His calling throughout her  journey. Her walk with God was not only spoken, but lived with conviction, grace, and purpose. As a traveling missionary, Sr. Sylvia dedicated herself to Kingdom work, planting churches throughout Haiti and helping spread the Gospel wherever God led her.

In 1984, she migrated to America, where she continued to build a life rooted in motherhood, hard work, prayer, and spiritual devotion. She raised her children with perseverance and an  unshakable trust in God. Known for her powerful life of intercession, she prayed faithfully  and tirelessly for her family, friends, and all those she carried in her heart. Her prayers were a covering, her wisdom was a gift, and her presence was a blessing to every generation that followed her.

As a grandmother and great-grandmother, Sr. Sylvia poured love, discipline, life lessons, and spiritual guidance into her family. She leaves behind a legacy of prayer and strength that will continue to live through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were touched by her life. Those who loved her will always remember the warmth of her greeting, calling them “Cherie” with the biggest smile on her face, a simple expression that carried tenderness, familiarity, and love.  She will be deeply missed by her family, church family, and friends. Sr. Sylvia will forever be remembered for her gentle smile, kind eyes, hardworking spirit, and steadfast walk with God.

Sr. Sylvia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jean Wilfrid Pierre; her son, Jean Robert Pierre; her brother, Antonio “Boston” Antony; her sister, Elmita Dura; and other beloved family members who went before her.  Sylvia leaves to cherish her memory her children and their families: Marie “Islande” Pierre; Wilfrid “Ti Wilfrid” Pierre Jr.; Soeurette Pierre (Roger Joseph); Maltine Pierre (Abel Limage); Michelle Pierre (Jean M. Pierre); Jinot Pierre; and Alexandra Pierre-Paul (Donald Pierre-Paul). Affectionately known as “Manman,” she also held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren: Fara Stevens (Dayon Stevens); Luidgi Robert Pierre (Robin Sellers); Joanna St. Fort Colin; Jamar Pierre; Cassidy Pierre; Vickie Pierre; Jessica Pierre; Jennifer Pierre; Wesnel Pierre; Terence Joseph; and John Joseph. She also loved and cherished her great-grandchildren: Prada; Julian “Juju”; Mekhi “Ti Khi”; Hannah; Riley; Logan; Natania; Sarai; Reina; Soleil; Mirabelle; and many other souls whose lives were blessed by her love and prayers. She is also remembered by her sisters, Sincere St. Albor and Therese Oxer; her nieces and nephews, including Mirlande Pierre-Louis & family; Daphne Antony; Holgen “Moumoune” Pierre; Kettline Nelson; Shirley Rose Princivil; Jean Marie Louis; Jack “Ti Jack” Nelson; Mondy Olivier; Ryanna; Kaylee; Caya; Jack; Emilia; and a host of relatives and friends. Her life was a sermon of faith, her prayers were a covering, and her legacy will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
